Jane Lewis Original Prints
A Singular Vision
Fifty Years of British Painting at The Portal Gallery

Started in 1959 by Lionel Levy and Eric Lister, and originally located just off London's Bond Street, the Portal Gallery is an unpretentious venue for works by up-and-coming as well as established artists. For half a century its patrons have been collecting the gallery's unusual pictures, which lean toward the fantastic, magical and surreal. This book brings together the most significant works exhibited at the Portal Gallery. Today the gallery's artists attract ever-new audiences, confirming the continued appeal of exquisitely executed, imaginative, figurative work amid the passing fashions of the contemporary art market. The illustrations throughout offer a thematic chronicling of a gallery whose mission is to nurture artists who share a flair for the unconventional.

Written by Jess Wilder and Laura Gascoigne, this is a definitive history and catalogue of an extraordinary gallery. The cover features Jane Lewis' painting "The Carnival Float", and several of her works are reproduced inside.

Published by PRESTEL in April 2009, the book can be ordered online from a number of suppliers, including Amazon, or directly from Portal Painters

BELOW IS A SELECTION (BUT NOT ALL) OF JANE'S IMAGES WHICH APPEAR AS FULL-PAGE REPRODUCTIONS IN THE BOOK.
